Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot hoover and mop vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot hoover and mop that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
