Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and robot Hoover socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot automatic vacuum and mop robot and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuum best vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
