BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This stops thieves adding an additional key or replacing the ECU to get around your security system because it requires a correct PIN code to start the engine.

Ghost developed this discreet, unobtrusive device to combat the growing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It is designed to prevent thieves from acquiring a new key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive away. Ghost connects to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons on your vehicle (steering wheel, centre console and door panels) to create a unique push sequence that must be completed before the engine can start.

Once the anti-hijacking mode is activated and the engine is restarted, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. The system will sharpen the horn and flash the indicators. It will also stall the vehicle in the event that the code cannot be found. By entering your push sequence, or entering service mode, you can deactivate the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to start temporarily without the need to enter a PIN.

If you own an GPS device connected to your BMW it can be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature so you can still use the navigation system inside your car whilst the vehicle is parked unattended. You can also use your mobile phone to control the anti theft feature and other functions.

The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personal PIN code is programmed into it. The pin code must be entered prior to the engine's start. This prevents thieves from using a copied key or replacing the ECU in order to bypass this system.

If the vehicle is stolen, the Ghost will enter service mode and stop all functions unless you have the PIN number or use the mobile application to disable it.
